http://www.ahip.org/content/fileviewer.aspx?docid=8931&linkid=65558 is where you can find an ad campaign looking for liability limits for doctors so that their malpractice insurance rates can be lowered....by implication, with fewer lawsuit settlements insurers can lower their rates for doctors and therefore what? The doctors will pass the savings on to you. And they lived happily ever after. Next fairy tale please.
While people bicker about the cost of malpractice insurance and those evil patients suing doctors for malpractice, it's interesting that the same policies applied to individuals who are coldly told that their insurance costs are high because of themselves, their genetics, their habits, their bad luck, are not applied to doctors. If doctors want to reduce the cost of liability, do your job better, weed out the bad apples, stop covering for one another and stop looking to the government to protect you from your own incompetence. Beyond this is the purely fantasy driven notion that if doctors can save on the cost of insurance that their insurance companies will reduce their cost for malpractice insurance and then that they will pass those savings onto the patient...come on.
So if the symbol for patients suing doctors is the shark jaw, perhaps the symbol for the doctors and insurers partnering to LEGISLATE away their liability for ERRORS should be the wolf in sheep's clothing. Then actual pictures of people injured through such mistakes could flash on the screen and then we could close up on one of these costumed wolves in sheep's clothing, red eyes peering through the sheep suit and have him say....come closer.....
