Emergency room: It's not your appendix for $6500

When a family member had a stomach ache in his lower right quadrant, it made sense to make sure it wasn't the appendix, no?

Well, in the spirit of get 'em where you can, the emergency room took a copay of $50 and mailed a bill for $6500 to determine, no it's not your appendix.

It is this kind of "preventive" environment that has contributed to the stupidity and expense of our health services system.

As savvy consumers, we knew to say we don't want every test you can offer, we want a yes or no answer to a specific question....unfortunately, that is no longer an option.

It is the look at my toys overkill of medical personnel that needlessly wastes resources.
