Today, write to Eric Rozenman

Where do they get these guys? Eric Rozenman, writing for the Chicago Tribune on December 24 2008 tries to dupe the American people into thinking that PAYING FOR ILLNESS is the problem with our health services environment. Does Mr. Rozenman understand that health insurance, is supposed to cover the RISK OF THE COST OF TREATING ILLNESS? Instead, Mr. Rozenman misuses old US trigger buttons of personal responsibility and shopping around in the "free market" as a consumer's best chance of doing well in the insurance market.

He, with all DUE respect, is an idiot. There are no free markets in insurance, that's why billions of dollars are spent by insurance companies LOBBYING FOR LAWS that favor insurance companies, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see it has worked.
Like a little mini McCain, he argues for people being able to shop for insurance plans available in other states...last I looked, insurance companies operate across state lines, doesn't really help a guy who gets a great insurance plan that has no support or participating providers in his own state.

He argues for personal responsibility: Obese smokers, you're up a creek. But our ignorant friend does not anticipate that his own human condition, failed health and genetic makeup will make him a pariah in the insurance risk pool as soon as he has ANY health issue.

He also seems to forget that elections seasons are ANNUAL, this year's illness is next year's premium rate hike.

Stupidity presented as fact, or as reasoned argument tells us more about the person spouting stupidity than about what they're saying.

Mr. Rozenman is not qualified to speak on health insurance, that's what comes across, though perhaps he's looking for a future in Illinois politics.
